It's Time to Axe Linktree from Your Social

Here's an unpopular opinion from your friendly, neighborhood web developer:

Linktree is a waste of user engagement!

Linktree and other similar platforms do provide an easy point-of-entry for users coming from different social media channels to access your content. This is great for small businesses and solo entrepreneurs getting started with their social media management. It's incredibly simple to setup!

However, by using a third-party, you're sending your users (and potential customers) to another website that isn't yours causing you to miss out on the engagement and analytics... And that makes our pixelated heart hurt for you because your business website deserves all the traffic it can get!

We understand people feel awkward adding new functionality to their website without a nerd around, so let us break the process down for you so you feel comfortable with the DIY approach!

Let's compare the features on your website to Linktree.

Still not 100% convinced making full use of your website is a better option then implementing Linktree? Here's a side-by-side comparison of the features available, and what the approximate cost is if you're using Linktree.

We love those green checkmarks as much as the next biz owner, but not when it comes at an additional, monthly cost when those features are already available on your website!

Here's how to create dynamic links on your own website:

  1. Create a new page in your website platform called "Links." Depending on which platform your website is on (e.g. WordPress, Squarespace, Shopify, Wix, WebFlow, or Weebly) this step may look a little different.
  2. Add links to this new page, and style however you'd like. You can turn each link into a button, separate them on the page using a line break or spacer, or color code different blocks of text. Most importantly: keep in mind the vast majority of users will be viewing this on their mobile device!
  3. Publish this new "Links" page.
  4. Add the full URL to your social media profile. (For example: add pixeljam.digital/links to the website option in your Instagram and TikTok profiles.)

Now you can take pride in doing this yourself, and enjoy the increase in traffic to your website! ?
